Prints and

Drawings

I am a Minneapolis native and have been drawing since I was young. Art was a prominent part of my life. At age 10, a friend and I would often walk to the Minneapolis Institute of Arts or the Walker Art Center and spend the afternoon wandering through the galleries. While in junior and senior high school I took a lot of drafting courses. As I learned about Frank Lloyd Wright, the Prairie school of architecture, mid century modern, my career choice became architecture. I began architecture and engineering coursework at the University of Minnesota. I was required to take a number of Studio Arts classes and soon discovered printmaking, specifically lithography. Soon my interests changed and I focused on Studio Arts. I enrolled in printmaking classes in night school to complete an Art degree.

I worked in drafting and design for 40 years. Initially I did mechanical and electrical drafting but later transitioned to structural drafting. Over time that work changed from manual drafting to computer design. I retired early to return to printmaking. My biggest challenge was relearning to draw as my drawing skills had atrophied due to 20 years of computer design work. I had to practice drawing basics to get my hands to do what I was thinking.

I have been an artist and member of a printmaking cooperative since 2014. I have conducted training sessions in cad design, and design and project standards. My art is influenced by the geometric nature of my drafting experience, architecture, and various abstract art movements. My printmaking experience is lithography, woodcuts, and monprints. Mycurrent printmaking practice is to experiment and push the boundaries of traditional printmaking.
